As of March 12, 2018 the eBay Valet program has been discontinued and is no longer accepting items.
What was eBay Valet?
eBay Valet was a service provided by eBay. The idea was to help people get their items listed on eBay without having to do it themselves. Items could be shipped directly to eBay, who would then forward them to a registered eBay valet to handle the whole process. Once an item was sold, users of the eBay Valet service would receive a check for a percentage of the sale.
eBay Valet sounded like a good idea, but according to many reviews, it did not function as intended.
Common complaints were; packages of merchandise being lost, items being sold at very low prices, items not being listed or sold at all, and consignors having to wait long periods of time to be paid for items sold.
eBay Valet Alternatives
Before eBay Valet, there was the eBay Trading Assistant program. Experienced eBay sellers, meeting certain criteria, were listed in the TA directory on eBay. People unable or unwilling to list their items on eBay could search the directory for a Trading Assistant to help them.
In my opinion, eBay should have helped their Trading Assistants with greater marketing and lead generating efforts. Instead, they disbanded the TA program and competed against registered Trading Assistants around the country.
